Villa Florida Hotel, Lake Garda: A More Homely White Lotus
Villa Florida Hotel’s Overall Proposal. Lake Garda is an aspirational holiday destination filled with history, glorious natural beauty and period Italian architecture. Villa Florida Hotel lies in the middle of it all, with some of the lake’s best attractions within walking distance. The Hotel rises to the occasion channelling the elegance and history steeped into Lake Garda. The property sits on 6 hectares of an 1893 estate owned by the Cipani family since the 1950s. Bougainvillea blooms over balconies with jaw-dropping views across Lake Garda and the surrounding landscape. The hotel features hand-painted ceilings, elegant antique furniture and other artisanal touches throughout. Hotel Villa Florida is a base from which to explore, but there’s every chance you may not want to leave.
Villa Florida Hotel’s Family One-Bedroom Suite
Overall. Our Suite is spacious, with more than enough space for two people to unfold large suitcases over two days. A main bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette and open plan living room with daybed-size chaise. But we all come for the view, spending most of our time on the bougainvillaea-draped balcony staring at Lake Garda in admiration.
Bedroom. The bedroom is a generous “European” size, meaning it’s large for Europe but Middle East and American guests may come to a different view. It’s tastefully finished – like the rest of the Suite (and hotel, for that matter) – in a style from another time. A broad mirror positioned next to a large window means natural light ricochets around the room. The neutral pale colour scheme soothes long journeys. Large built-in wardrobes store enough for a long weekend, maximizing the space to walk around in the room. The king-sized bed is ultra soft and comfortable with air conditioning for those warmer Italian summers.
Bathroom. The most utilitarian room by way of decor. White tiling, towels and silver features. A large central mirror, smaller mirrors and large white radiators for drying towels. The shower is reliably hot with VERO toiletries made from botanical flowers. It’s a spacious bathroom, especially by European standards, but the decor does not live up to the rest of the room.
Living room, kitchenette and balcony. You may not use the living room and kitchenette if you plan to walk around Lake Garda, but it’s a useful space to have. The fridge keeps water, juices and chills local bottles of Franciacorta. The living space is large enough to keep children busy with puzzles and whatnot.
The real reason for the room is the balcony view. A small bistro table on the balcony allows for sunset drinks, breakfast coffees in the room or just moments of respite during the day. The bougainvillaea frames the balcony beautifully. It’s a real postcard moment.
As an aside, all rooms are non-smoking. The Wi-Fi and Internet were very reliable during our stay for emails, social media and streaming.
Villa Hotel Florida’s bedroom is bright and well-sized for an older European bedroom; the living room also featured views overlooking Lake Garda with ample space for families.

Villa Florida Hotel’s Food and Beverage
I only ever ate breakfast in the hotel. It’s a buffet-style breakfast with pastries, juices, coffees and, of course, cooked items made to order from the chefs. The outside terrace is the prime spot under a shaded canopy giving a lot of White Lotus Season 2 energy with statues, a nearby swimming pool and, again, those views overlooking Lake Garda.
Ristorante Lido 84, just down the slope and opposite the hotel, is one of the world’s best restaurants, with one Michelin star and no 8 on the 2022 World’s 50 Best Restaurants, as of writing.
Gardone Riviera offers a few places to eat, and I cannot recommend enough getting out to explore the surrounding area. What else are you here for?
Villa Hotel Florida’s dining rooms and reception areas.
Indeed, we saw one or two families here. However, international travellers may assume there are kids’ facilities here, like what you may expect from large family resorts. This is not the case.
Courts are available upon request for a supplement of about €40 per night. Sadly, pets are not allowed.

Warm, energetic and locally knowledgeable. They help to arrange restaurant bookings and provide guidance on where to go and what to do. They arranged for a taxi all the way back to Milan Malpensa for us from Lake Garda (just under two hours drive). The family-owned hospitality exudes through as the teams are friendly and chatty but also know when you want privacy and downtime. The hotel is open all the time, so you can explore late into the night and return with your key to open the main door.

Hotel Villa Florida’s large swimming pool and surrounding tiled area are the main draw. Enjoyed chilled wine by the pool in the sun overlooking views across Lake Garda. The hotel will gladly suggest walking, hiking and biking tours. In fact, there is a cycling path at one end of the lake. Boat tours across the lake can be arranged.
My advice is to head towards the promenade along the lake’s corniche by the Hotel Du Lac for gelato, a glass of wine (or a bottle) and some pristine World War 2 history learning about where the Germans camped during the war or where Mussolini camped. It’s a beautiful walk with manicured gardens, well-maintained buildings and plenty of signs to explain what happened. You can also catch a boat across the lake for further exploring.
Villa Hotel Florida’s 6 hectare sprawling properties including lush gardens.
Without a doubt. Life will bring me back to Lake Garda – whether for travels or, more likely, for Ristorante Lido 84.
